Vernazza is often considered the most beautiful village in Cinque Terre, and it’s easy to see why.
As soon as you enter the village, you’re greeted by a charming harbor surrounded by colorful buildings, fishing boats, cafés, and restaurants. The small waterfront piazza creates a lively atmosphere throughout the day and is one of the best places in Cinque Terre to sit with a coffee or enjoy a long Italian lunch.
One of Vernazza’s biggest strengths is its balance. It offers stunning scenery while still feeling like a functioning village. There are plenty of restaurants, wine bars, gelato shops, and small boutiques, giving visitors lots to enjoy without feeling overly commercial.
The harbor is also a wonderful place to spend time. Although the swimming area is relatively small, many visitors enjoy relaxing on the rocks or taking a refreshing swim during the warmer months.
Accommodation is limited, so booking well in advance is recommended, especially during spring and summer. Most hotels and guesthouses are located inside historic buildings, meaning rooms can be compact and staircases are common.
Like the other villages, Vernazza becomes busy during the day as thousands of visitors arrive by train and hiking trail. Fortunately, the atmosphere changes completely in the evening. Once the day-trippers leave, the village becomes much quieter and wonderfully relaxed.

However, if you’re planning a romantic getaway or simply want to unwind after a day of sightseeing, Manarola would be my choice. Sitting on the rocks with a glass of local wine while watching the sunset is one of those travel experiences you’ll remember long after your trip ends.
